blepharos
Blepharo is the term given to a person who has Blepharospasm. Blepharospasm is a neurological disorder that causes the eye muscles to twitch, squint, blink and or close.
The symptoms are excessive and uncontrollable. The actual cause is unknown but what is known is that there are misfiring of neurons located in the area of the brain called the basal ganglia. This part of the brain is the central location for muscular movement and is therefore, responsible for uncontrolled and excessive movements that affect other body parts. When it affects another part of the body, besides the eyelid, it is called dystonia.
Most blepharos experience blepharospasm for many years before receiving a proper diagnosis. This is because doctors know very little about blepharospasm. Once diagnosed, doctors will often recommend injections into the eyelids to paralyze the eye muscles. Some may find partial relief. I tried injections because, after two years of excessively blinking, I wanted relief. What I received was some relief along with a change in my smile. After two treatments, I discontinued it and later found a nutritional program that supported my body and helped to improve the quality of my life. After six months, my symptoms were dramatically alleviated and I was no longer blinking excessively. Imagine ! It seemed far-fetched that nutrition could help a neurological disorder, but that's what I experienced. Now that I am better, my desire is to help others find relief.
