WHAT IS blepharospasm?
Blepharospasm is a neurological movement disorder evidenced by involuntary and excessive eye closure, or intermittent or constantly. It is a chronic, unremitting, forcible closure of the eyelids. It is also a neurological disfunction coming from the motor control center of the brain called the basal ganglia.
Some people with extreme cases of Blepharospasm have their eyes close and they cannot be opened. Blepharospasm symptoms can vary from light sensitivity and slight eyelid twitching to the eyelids being completely shut.
I was diagnosed with blepharospasm over 20 years ago. I tried injections to the eyelids because, after two years of excessively blinking, I wanted relief. What I received was some relief along with a change in my smile. After two treatments, I discontinued the injections and later found a nutritional program that supported my body and helped to improve the quality of my life. After six months, my symptoms were dramatically alleviated and I was no longer blinking excessively. The nutrition nourished my brain and body. Now that I am better, my desire is to help others find relief.
